Self-publishing a book on a budget can be tough. In this video, I’m going to show you how to make money online with Upwork, so stick around.

While most of my self-published books I have written, illustrated and published for free, it is nice to have a little extra funds set aside, just in case you need them. Enter Upwork. Upwork is a freelance platform, similar to Fiverr, where clients can put in project requests and freelancers can apply for those jobs. While I have both a freelancer account and a client account on Upwork, for today’s Upwork tutorial I’m going to show you how to earn money online as a freelancer on Upwork.
First, you need to know that Upwork projects cover a huge spectrum of topics. Some are specific to writing and being a self-published author, like help formatting ebooks for kindle or paperback for Createspace, proofreading, editing, etc. While others have nothing to do with being an indie author and are more generic like data entry in Excel, transcription, and everything in between.
I’m sure there is something posted on the platform that you’re good at.
For starters, you’re going to go to www.upwork.com and create an upwork account. Setting up an upwork account is fairly intuitive, so you can just follow the prompts.
Since I already have an Upwork account I’m going to log in.
The important things you need to know when it comes to finding a job on upwork is to:
1. Pick a category you are skilled at
2. Create a compelling upwork coverletter that makes you stand out
3. Understand that you may need to low bid for your first few projects just so you can get the experience and reviews on the Upwork platform.
4. Remember to account for Upwork’s fee
Once I started earning money online with Upwork, I put those funds in a separate account just for my self-publishing needs. I hope you find this self-publishing tip helpful and if you want to continue to get all of the hints, tips and tricks on how to make self-publishing easier to navigate then be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and hit the bell icon so you get alerted each and every time I put out new content.
Until next time, I’m Keith Wheeler and remember to Write Right!
